Setting up LG digital signage displays with webOS

This article contains information how to install and register the Joan CMS player software on LG webOS screens.

Requirements

  1. The LG digital signage display with webOS (v2.0–6.0)

  2. Power cable

  3. Ethernet cable (optional if using Wi-Fi)

  4. Provisioning USB stick, follow these steps to create one:

    • Use an empty (no other files) USB 2.0 stick

    • Download the file scap_installation.json
    • Keep the name exactly as is and copy it to the root directory of the USB stick (not inside any folder).

Installation

  1. Connect the Cables & USB Stick

    1. Plug in the power cable.

    2. Connect the Ethernet cable (skip if using Wi-Fi).

    3. Insert the provisioning USB stick.

  2. Setup Network
    1. Setup the network using webOS interface

  3. Install Software
    1. Turn on the display.

    2. After a few seconds, the software will begin installing automatically.

    3. If installation fails please make sure your network connection is working.

    4. If issues persist, use the manual provisioning procedure (available on request)

  4. Register to CMS
    1. About one minute after the first boot, the registration screen will appear.

    2. Remove the provisioning USB stick.

    3. Reach out to support@getjoan.com with your registration code (PIN) included.

⚠️ Important: Do not power off the screen during registration.

Firmware Upgrade (if prompted)

  • After registration, the screen may start a firmware update.

  • Do not power off the screen during this process.

Completion

  • Once installation and updates finish, your screen will be ready to display CMS  content.

  • If no content is scheduled, the display will power off automatically.

  • If the screen stays black:

    • Wait 15 minutes.
    • Reboot the screen.
