Setting up LCD displays with Joan CMS

Joan CMS seamlessly supports standard LCD displays alongside Joan devices, making it easy to unify and optimise your workplace signage. This guide details how you can integrate a variety of display technologies for reliable, effective communication.

Overview

Joan CMS offers versatile compatibility with a range of LCD displays, providing multiple integration options to suit different workplace needs:

  • LG digital signage displays are natively supported through a software player (app) that is installed to their operating system webOS.
  • Samsung digital signage displays are natively supported through a software player (app) that is installed to their operating system Tizen.

LG and Samsung DS displays are a reliable and cost effective choice for most workplace digital signage requirements. If purchasing new displays this is the best option.

  • Displays featuring a built-in Intel system-on-chip (SoC), such as select ProDVX models, are supported out of the box via a Linux-based software player (OS image).

These displays offer greater flexibility in display sizes and form factors for your workplace digital signage requirements while still remaining cost effective.

  • Displays equipped with a Smart Display Module (SDM) slot can accommodate an SDM Intel module running our Linux-based software player (OS image). For example, Sharp NEC produces displays with SDM slots, and Giada manufactures compatible SDM modules.

These displays provide flexibility in choosing SDM module specifications and, once installed, integrate directly into the display with no need for external cables. Typically premium-grade, they also include advanced security features.

  • For other LCD displays, support is available via external media players in a Mini-PC format that run our Player OS image based on Linux. There are numerous options on the market; for instance, AV resellers commonly offer brands like Giada and Maxtang, known for their reliable 24/7 operation and robust warranties. Additionally, widely available brands such as Lenovo, HP, Minis Forum, and Beelink provide versatile solutions for digital signage needs.

This approach works with any display featuring an HDMI input, making it the most adaptable choice. It’s especially ideal for repurposing existing displays.
