How to add a building to the Joan Portal?

Buildings are essentially groups of rooms/resources that share the same settings. This allows for easier management of your Joan devices and your office resources in general.

Buildings are not connected to your calendar and are exclusive to your Joan Portal account. These buildings can be anything from a different office to simply a different room you wish to have different settings. So, when adding a building, you are actually creating it. 

If you wish to learn more about building-specific settings, click here. Otherwise, follow these steps in order to add a building and connect resources to it:

How to add a building

  1. Log in to Joan Portal with your account credentials
  2. Navigate to the “Manage” page via the top navigation menu
  3. Turn on the "Advanced" view in the top left corner
  4. Select “Buildings” from the left-hand side menu
  5. Click on the “+ Add building” button
  6. A new pop-up window will open. Enter the requested information:
    1. The desired name of your building
    2. Add an address to the building
    3. Select the timezone, language, time format, and maintenance email. If left blank, the default global settings will be used
  7. Click “Save

And that’s it. You have successfully added a building to your Joan Portal account. You can now find it in the list on the “Manage” -> “Buildings” page.

To delete the building, just click on the checkbox of the desired building. The button "Remove" will appear, so you can easily remove it from the list.

How to connect a resource to a building

With your building ready, you will now need to connect rooms to it, so that the building settings become active. 

Follow these steps to connect a room to a building:

  1. Log in to Joan Portal with your account credentials
  2. Navigate to the “Manage” page via the top navigation menu
  3. Turn on the "Advanced" view in the top left corner
  4. Select “Rooms” from the left-hand side menu
  5. Click on the room/resource you wish to add to your building
    • If you do not have any rooms/resources available, follow these instructions on how to add them
  6. A new pop-up window will open. Click the empty field under “Building
  7. A drop-down menu will appear for you to select a building. Otherwise, you can also begin typing in the name and the results will filter based on your input
  8. Click “Update

And that’s it. Your device will refresh shortly with the updated information.
