How to reboot a Joan device?

Mistakes and hiccups in Joan’s operation may happen. In such cases, a simple reboot of the device will refresh all the settings and resolve any issues automatically.

There are two ways to reboot your device:

  1. Through the Joan Configurator
  2. Through the VSS server (Available only if you are hosting the server on-premises)

How to reboot a device via the desktop Joan Configurator:

  1. Run the Joan Configurator
    • If you are using Windows or macOS, simply run the file.
    • If you are using Linux, follow these steps:
      • Open the Terminal
      • Navigate to the destination folder where you downloaded the file. For example
        cd Downloads
      • Run the Joan Configurator as a superuser with the following command
        sudo ./JoanConfigurator_linux
  1. Connect the Joan device to your computer with the provided Micro USB cable
  2. Once connected, click the “Reboot” button in the bottom of the window
  3. A notification will appear in the Joan Configurator that the device will now reboot and shortly after you will hear a *beep* from the device.

And that’s it. You have successfully rebooted your Joan device.

How to reboot a device via the mobile Joan Configurator app:

  1. Open the mobile Joan Configurator application.
  2. In the device list, select your device.
  3. Wait for the device to load and then click on "Reboot device".

And that’s it. You have successfully rebooted your Joan device.

Acquire the serial number/UUID of the device you wish to reboot. If you are not sure how to do that, follow these steps:

  1. Run the Joan Configurator
      1. Connect the Joan device to your computer with the provided Micro USB cable
  2. Once connected, the serial number of the device will appear at the top of the window.

Once you have acquired the device's UUID, open your web browser and follow these steps:

  1. Go to your VSS server admin panel. The link to it should be using this format:
    Server_IP_address:8081
  2. Navigate to “Devices” in the left-hand side menu
  3. In the list of devices, find the one you wish to reboot and click on it. Using your browser's search function should aid you in finding it, should you have more devices.
  4. This will open the “Basic settings” view of the device. Click the “Advanced settings” below the preview panel.
  5. Once opened, at the bottom of your screen, you will find the “Restart session” and “Reboot device” red buttons.
  6. First, click “Restart session”, followed by “Reboot device
  7. When your device has successfully rebooted, it will notify you with a sound signal.

And that’s it! That’s how you can reboot and refresh your device through the admin panel of your VSS server.
