Featuring E-Ink® displays and low-power Wi-Fi modules, Joan devices have exceptionally long battery life, however, some factors can affect how long the battery lasts.
But different circumstances such as these can shorten or prolong the period between charges of your Joan devices :
- A good Wi-Fi connection means a long battery life
- Joan needs to take a break as well
- Turn off the touch capabilities
A good Wi-Fi connection means a long battery life
The quality of the Wi-Fi network Joan is connected to is one of the biggest factors when it comes to battery life.
Joan devices are thin clients that require a strong and stable connection to communicate with your calendar in order to display whether the room is free and who booked the meeting. If this communication is broken, Joan devices automatically attempt to reconnect to the network.
An unstable Wi-Fi connection will trigger a cycle of disconnects and reconnects, resulting in excessive battery drainage.
The simplest way to resolve this is to ensure the Wi-Fi signal strength between the Access Point and Joan device remains strong.
You can easily keep track of the Wi-Fi strength of each Joan device in MyJoan account. If in the MyJoan it is indicated that one of your devices has a weak signal, you might want to check what is causing it.
Check out our Wi-Fi network checklist and requirements to find what you need to keep an eye out for.
Joan needs to take a break as well
Joan devices do not have power buttons, so they remain active even when the last person leaves your office for the day.
A great way to improve the battery performance is to utilize the "Office hours" feature available in MyJoan. With it, you can set the time periods in which you want your Joan devices to be active, and periods when Joan can go to sleep, greatly impacting the device's energy conservation.

Turn off the touch capabilities
If you don’t need the option to book or cancel meetings from the device, you can even further decrease the power consumption of your devices by disabling the touch-screen capabilities in MyJoan.
The device will continue to display the meetings and schedules, you just won't be able to book a meeting from it.
